The Childhood: When Logic Failed

The Childhood

Since my childhood, I have never believed in ghosts. I know many of you do, and my statement of not believing will definitely intrigue you, but it is the truth. I always believed people overrated ghosts so much that they imagined them everywhere, driven by the excessive hype filmmakers created.

But all my thoughts about them being void came to an end. The day I won’t be able to forget in my lifetime.

It was mid-June when I came home early from work. Usually, my mom, dad, and brother are there in the house when I come back, but that day they all went out shopping.

I went inside, locked the door, kept my bag on the table, and went to change my clothes and freshen up. I clearly remember that I kept my bag on the table, but when I came back from the bathroom it was not there, rather it was lying on the floor near the window.

For a second, I thought that I might have kept it there and forgotten about it. But then I started feeling something odd. It was like something was there, staring at me. I ignored it and went into the kitchen to eat my supper.

But this time I was not wrong. I turned on the stove, kept the utensil filled with water on it, and left the kitchen to attend to a call in another room. As soon as I came back into the kitchen, I saw that the stove was on but the utensil was not there. I looked all around and found out that it was in the sink, which I clearly remember was empty.

Until my parents came back, I stayed in my apartment, and as they came, I told them everything. Like a normal parent, they said that I might be hallucinating, I might be tired due to work and should rest. But I know that was not the case.

Soon, weird things started happening around the house, not just with me but also with my mom too. We were not sure what to do and whom to tell. We started to feel that someone was continuously staring and following.

I knew that this was not how I wanted to live the rest of my life. I had to do something, and so I did.

We called up some great priests from our nearby holy place and organised a small ritual in the house. The ritual was scheduled for the day of Amavasya. We planned everything from setting the place to bringing everything needed during the process.

Finally, the day arrived for performing the ritual. The priests asked us to step outside the house until they finished the process.

I don’t know what will happen. I was so scared all the time. The priest performed the two-hour ritual and declared that whatever entity had been present was banished and could no longer enter our house.

I tried to ask them who was there and what they wanted, but the priest ignored me.

My father saw-off them until we waited for him so that we could get inside together. As soon as he came back, my parents and my brother entered the house, but I don’t know what happened, I couldn’t get in.

It was like a force trying to push me outside. I tried to call my parents, but no one listened. Until I saw something hanging in the drawing room and realised that it was my photo-frame with a garland hanging on it.
